Audio stays in memory. Transcription stays on your Mac. Paxhint keeps nothing about you.

Paxhint Settings, Connection: the API server address and the API key saved in Keychain

What Paxhint processes, and where

  • Audio. Your microphone and the call audio playing on your Mac are captured into memory buffers only. Audio is never written to disk and is gone when you press Stop or quit the app.
  • Transcription. Speech is turned into text on your Mac with WhisperKit. The speech model, about 630 MB, downloads once on first run; after that, transcription needs no network.
  • Questions and answers. When you mark a question, Paxhint sends the question text, the last few lines of the transcript for context, the documents of your active profile and any notes you typed in the panel to the AI server you configured: Anthropic by default, or any server that speaks the Anthropic API that you choose, such as your own proxy. That server drafts the answer. How it handles the request is governed by its own terms. Paxhint keeps questions and answers in memory for the current session only and does not save them to disk.
  • Profile documents. Your CV, stories, job posting and notes are Markdown files in ~/Library/Application Support/Paxhint/profiles/ on your Mac. You create, edit and delete them.
  • API key. Stored in the macOS Keychain, never in a plain file.
  • Settings. Your preferences, such as the answer style and the shortcut, are stored locally on your Mac.

What Paxhint does not do

No account, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no recording. Paxhint has no server of its own: the only network requests it makes are the one time download of the speech model and the answer requests to the AI server you set up.

Permissions

Paxhint asks for Microphone and for Screen & System Audio Recording. macOS requires the second one for capturing the call audio played by your meeting app. Paxhint uses the audio only; it does not record or keep your screen, and it never uses the camera or any video.

Screen sharing

The panel, the menu and the Settings window are excluded from screen capture. When you share your whole screen, the Paxhint icon in the menu bar is visible to the other side like any menu bar icon. When you share one window or tab, nothing of Paxhint is visible.
